What is an Advance Directive?

An Advance Directive is a document which allows you to express your wishes in advance in order to let physicians and others know what medical treatments are acceptable in the event of terminal illness or temporary incapacity. Advance Directives include Living Wills and Durable Powers of Attorney. A Living Will directive supercedes a Durable Power of Attorney for Health Care. Advance planning is extremely important for these complex decisions. It is recommended that you consult with an attorney well versed in this area.
